Salus Monthly Wellness Tips: Freedom from Being Overwhelmed

It can be very stressful when you are unable to locate what you are searching for; you may feel ill at east because something has not been completed, or you may wonder what the top of your desk looks like! Here are some tips to reduce stress, clutter and rejuvenate for Spring and create peace of mind:

1. Simplify. If possible, move your bank accounts and investments to the same company so you have only one or two statements each month.

2. Organize. Start with just one drawer. Go through the papers and discard what you do not need to keep and label files for what you need.

3. Eliminate. Put your bills on direct debit so you can eliminate writing checks each month.

4. Downsizing. If you are moving or just downsizing, start with one cupboard, or dresser. Work for only one to two hours at a time. If this is too overwhelming, get help. Downsizing and discarding is physically and emotionally taxing. If you are moving, START MONTHS AHEAD OF TIME.

5. Pass on your used books, tapes and CDs to someone who might want them, or donate them to our Library.

6. Eliminate clutter. Clutter and disorganization may cause you to feel depressed and overwhelmed. If you keep putting off the project, get help to tackle what you cannot address.

7. Replace. If you buy something new, donate something old. One person’s discards are another person’s treasures.

8. Sell. Don’t keep something because you have it. Consign it, sell it on ebay or trade it.

9. Prioritize your projects. Choose the project that will give you the most relief when it is completed, or the one that is causing you the most discomfort.

10. Fun. Change can be fun. Play your favorite up-beat music, and trade "Project Days" with a friend. It is easier with two people.
