According to a recent online\nnews article<\/a>, an organization studying the strategic plan for Orange\nCounty, CA has found that the aging population here is increasing. Seal Beach,\nLaguna Woods and Villa Park are now amount the cities with the oldest\npopulation in our country. Roughly 14% of the population<\/a>\nis over the age of 65, and that number is expected to continue rising over the\nnext 20 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Priorities of Seniors in Orange County <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As the population in Orange County continues to get older, communities are seeing a shift in priorities and primary areas of concern. Among the top concerns the elderly population in this area faces are diet<\/a>, physical and mental health issues, financial abuse and housing. Essentially, there is a significant need for more resources for seniors in this area, as well as for easier access to the resources that are available to the aging community. Communication and coordination are both key, as is ensuring that seniors are wrapped with the support that they need to access resources and understand all that their communities offer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the sixth-leading cause of death for seniors across the country and the third-leading cause of death for seniors in Orange County, who were diagnosed at a rate of 12%. The progression of Alzheimer\u2019s disease makes it more difficult for many seniors to age in place, and it can also impact their long term medical care needs. Cognitive decline impacts a person\u2019s ability to remember to take important medications and properly manage their health and well being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the number of seniors is increasing in the area, other age groups are seeing a decline. Since 2013, she has served on the Board of Directors for the California Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (CHAPCA). Currently, Debbie serves as the co-chair for public policy and regulations with CHAPCA, advocating for policies that benefit hospice care patients and hospice care agencies. Under her direction and leadership, Debbie co-founded Salus Hospice in 2015 and leads the organization through continued Medicare licensure and Joint Commission Accreditation, actively working to maintain their high standards for patient care and excellence. In speaking about the value of hospice care and the hospice journey, Debbie states, \"Hospice is not about giving up hope, rather it\u2019s about redefining hope and living the best life possible for as long as you are able. At Salus Hospice we believe that life's final journey is deeply enriched by quality moments with loved ones and hospice professionals alongside.\" Debbie lives in Newport Beach with her husband and enjoys spending time with their family, dog Bailey, church friends and community.
