The senior must be certified by a physician as appropriate for this type of care. This includes a ranking of at least a stage seven on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiacarecentral.com\/aboutdementia\/facts\/stages\/\">Functional Assessment Staging scale (FAST)<\/a> as well as having experienced at least one of six specified medical complications including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>Aspiration Pneumonia<\/li>\n<li>Pyelonephritis<\/li>\n<li>Septicemia<\/li>\n<li>Multiple decubitus ulcers<\/li>\n<li>Recurrent fever after antibiotics<\/li>\n<li>At least a 10-percent weight loss resulting from inadequate food or liquid intake<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Benefits of Hospice<\/h2>\n<p>Once a senior qualifies for hospice, there are many benefits. In addition to helping the senior continue to enjoy dignity and comfort in the final stage of life, hospice provides comfort and understanding to the family. Under her direction and leadership, Debbie co-founded Salus Hospice in 2015 and leads the organization through continued Medicare licensure and Joint Commission Accreditation, actively working to maintain their high standards for patient care and excellence. In speaking about the value of hospice care and the hospice journey, Debbie states, \"Hospice is not about giving up hope, rather it\u2019s about redefining hope and living the best life possible for as long as you are able.
