School nursing services are paid through the individual school districts. There is no insurance coverage for this program, and the Medically Complex Children’s Waiver Program also does not cover it. To access services, it is very important to work with a pediatric care agency that is contracted to provide services in your school district. Salus Homecare contracts with many school districts in Utah. Contact us for assistance in determining if your child meets the eligibility requirements for this program.
Yes, your child’s nurse can provide support with homework and schoolwork as long as assignments are appropriate for the child’s abilities. This service can be included in the plan of care.
Many nurses sit directly beside the child. Some sit very close by and within eyesight. The best seating arrangement depends on the setup in the classroom and your child’s specific needs assessment. Regardless of where the nurse sits, your child will be their full focus throughout the school day so immediate support is always available should they need it.
