With some of the\nmost favorable weather in all of California, excellent public transportation\noptions, gorgeous city parks and a wide variety of beautiful neighborhoods,\nactive seniors enjoy retirement here and stay young at heart well into their\ngolden years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019re an active seniors enjoying life in San Diego or a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salushomecare.com\/san-diego\/blog\/important-duties-family-caregivers\/\">family caregiver<\/a> who wants to help your aging loved one feel more connected to the community, here are some great local resources worth exploring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning New Skills <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trying something new sharpens the mind and can help to slow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salushomecare.com\/san-diego\/blog\/importance-positive-aging-make-part-life-year\/\">cognitive decline<\/a>. Learning a new skill with friends is also a fun and a great way to meet like-minded people. The Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center, the George L Stevens Senior Center and the Jewish Family Service- College Ave Senior Center are three great places to check out if you\u2019re looking to take up a new hobby. Regularly scheduled computer classes, knitting groups, line dancing classes and strength training exercises are just some of the options available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clubs and Activities <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you prefer to stay more focused in building your social circle\nand enjoying a more specific activity, joining a club is a great way to stay\nactive in your community and make new friends. Stop by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/park-and-recreation\/activities\/agewellservices\">Senior\nLounge in Balboa Park<\/a>, room 105 in the Casa del Prado to socialize over a\ncup of coffee Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 am to noon. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/public-library\/\">The San Diego Public Library<\/a>\nalso offers book clubs and chess clubs in many different neighborhoods. Check their\nwebsite for days, times and more information. Or, if you\u2019re less inclined to\nleave home, socialize at home with the Caring for All Seniors in San Diego\nFacebook group. The group has thousands of members and posts information almost\ndaily that is relevant to seniors in our community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senior Support Groups <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>San Diego is home to some great support groups who help\nseniors to stay connected to and engaged in their community. Many local events\nhappen on a regular basis sponsored by these groups. Two upcoming events\ninclude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sdbif.org\/\">The San Diego Couples Group for Traumatic Brain Injury<\/a> pot luck dinner on October 14 from 4:30-6:00 PM. Locations vary, so contact the group for more information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/triumph-foundation.org\/\">The Men\u2019s Spinal\nCord Injury Support Group<\/a> meets on October 21 in the Sharp Memorial\nRehabilitation Center from 4:00-5:30 PM.
