These feelings of sadness are understandable, and they are normal. However, these feelings won\u2019t do you any good. Besides, age is only a number; you are only as old as you feel. You can still make the choice to stay young at heart and in spirit. When you learn to stay young at heart, you will regain a sense of joy, wonder, and excitement.<\/p>\n<h2>Stay Positive<\/h2>\n<p>When you want to stay young at heart, it is important to keep a positive attitude. Research has proven the power our thoughts have over us. The human mind is very complex; we have something called confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is when we look for evidence to support what we already hold to be true while subconsciously turning a blind eye to evidence that contradicts our current beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>If we believe our age is getting to us, we will look for a reason to confirm that belief. We start to act upon that belief. In a study, patients who felt negative about their age were more likely to have trouble walking within a few years compared those who did not feel negative. Staying positive reduces stress, and reducing stress improves your health.<\/p>\n<h2>Stay Connected<\/h2>\n<p>Nothing adds to depression like feelings of loneliness and depression. Therefore, it is vital to stay social. The longer you stay isolated, the more depressed you will feel. As your depression worsens, you will not want to be around other people. This is a dangerous cycle to be in.<\/p>\n<p>However, staying in touch with other people will help you feel happy and fulfilled. You can socialize with friends, family members or even stranger. You can join a community either in person or online. The internet is an excellent resource for meeting like-minded individuals. You can find online forums that are dedicated to hobbies, sports teams and more.<\/p>\n<h2>Teach Others<\/h2>\n<p>Helping other people is a great way to increase happiness and your sense of well-being. It\u2019s a great feeling to know you have made a positive difference on another human beings life. We all have talents and knowledge that would be valuable to other people. Insights that are clear to us are evasive to others.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest way to share your knowledge is to join social networks that are dedicated to discussing a topic you are knowledgeable about. Look for people posting questions and offer your insights. Nobody can do everything on their own. We all need support from time to time. Not wanting to ask for help is understandable. It can make you feel as if you have lost your independence. But not asking for help when you need it can cause problems to add up. When these problems add up, they become stressful and difficult to manage. Under her direction and leadership, Debbie co-founded Salus Hospice in 2015 and leads the organization through continued Medicare licensure and Joint Commission Accreditation, actively working to maintain their high standards for patient care and excellence.
