Negative emotions can also multiply if patients don’t feel comfortable talking them through or exploring their own coping mechanisms. In the last moments of life, family members face a lot of tough decisions. Unless these have been discussed in advance, this causes many to worry about what their loved one would want while also grappling with their own emotions. Supportive hospice professionals help families walk through these decisions while also finding their inner strength. This makes these life planning decisions easier to consider and often less stressful too.

After a patient passes, grief counseling services help loved ones who are left behind to find solace, strength and answers to some difficult questions. This important care is reassuring and can make a difficult time much less painful by helping family members to understand that they are not alone.  The Salus hospice team in South Bay offers grief counseling services to every family member. While participation is not mandatory, many find this to be of immense benefit as they move forward in life.

Emotional Care FAQ's

If you don’t see your question, please give us a call: (888) 725-8742

No, hospice care is not about giving up. Our social workers and counselors can help you to understand this and learn to cope with the emotions you are experiencing. Hospice will help you to process and learn to place importance on your quality of life for all the time you have left. In this way, hospice is often a very positive experience for clients and families.

Yes, hospice support is for all members of the family, whether your family looks like a traditional family or not. Our social workers, chaplains and volunteers can discuss concerns and questions with your loved one in order to help him cope with what is ahead and feel more positive about his ability to take care of his emotional health and still provide you with support.

No hospice services are mandatory; however, Salus Homecare South Bay does advise all of our clients to at least consider counseling. Many clients find that having this emotional support benefits them. However, if you choose not to speak with a social worker, chaplain or volunteer, simply let us know. Also realize that you can change your mind at any time.
