Hospice care for Alzheimer’s addresses the unique needs of patients with late stage dementia. Our Riverside County medical director, nurses, social workers, chaplains and caregivers understand common problems and symptoms associated with late stage Alzheimer’s disease and how they impact end of life care. This knowledge and information from the family and patient’s primary doctor are utilized to create a customized dementia care plan. The plan of care addresses dementia and patient specific needs and goals. It provides comfort care, emotional and spiritual support, and pain management. Together, this enhances the patient’s wellbeing and quality of life.

Salus Hospice’s pain management approach is of primary importance for the Alzheimer’s patient. Most dementia patients who are near the end of life are much less active, and oftentimes, bedbound. Ensuring that the patient’s hygiene needs are met, their skin is clean and healthy, and that they are not experiencing pain or discomfort from contractions, skin tears, or bedsores is imperative. It can even, at times, mean more time with loved ones. With our Riverside County hospice care plan and under the direction of our medical director, these objectives are met, and families report an improved quality of life.

All 3 physical therapists were excellent, and I was extremely well-advised!! So so helpful! Thank you to them all!

I was so happy to get the therapist I did. He is such a good physical therapist. He is very patient and caring. He always calls when he’s on his way. I do what exercises he tells me to do, and I already feel I’m healing.

If you don’t see your question, please give us a call: (888) 725-8742

The progression of Alzheimer’s disease alone is not an indication that hospice care is necessary. However, if your loved one has been diagnosed by a physician with a life expectancy of six months or less, it may be time to discuss hospice care. Additionally, if your loved one has lost a significant amount of weight, is increasingly susceptible to infections and diseases, or has a significant decrease in their ability to manage personal care tasks or general hygiene without complete support, it’s often an indication that this is a good time to discuss the benefits of hospice care with their physician.

Yes, in most cases. The primary criteria for Medicare qualification is that your loved one has been diagnosed with a life expectancy of six months or less if the disease follows its expected course. We are happy to discuss hospice care qualifications with you and will be happy to assist in filing any paperwork with Medicare or your insurance company.

No, Salus Hospice of Riverside County provides hospice care at home. This means your loved one can remain in familiar surroundings and with the people and things that they love the most.
