Salus Hospice Partnership with We Honor Veterans

America’s Veterans selflessly sacrifice a lot in service to our country. As their story is nearing the end, it’s still not too late to give them the hero’s welcome they deserve through hospice care. This compassionate program improves quality of life and offers the comfort and dignity our veterans truly deserve.

We Honor Veterans is about acknowledging the unique life story that every Veteran has and recognizing that this special and meaningful story dictates so much about how they feel an think and what they value related to their challenges, needs and goals. Through respectful inquiry, compassionate and focused listening and grateful acknowledgement, our hospice team follows and maintains the principles of the We Honor Veterans programs, guiding these American heroes and their loved ones through their life story and toward peaceful final moments in life.

In partnership with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Salus Hospice of Riverside maintains a goal of ensuring that each Veteran receives the highest quality care at the end of life. This care is accepting of all that makes them unique and respectful of the strengths and challenges that the Veteran has faced in their service and in life. Training through the We Honor Veterans Program is essential and teaches our staff valuable skills. We Honor Veterans also provides us with beneficial resources that we use to provide the very best end of life care to our Veteran patients and their families.

We Honor Veterans pinning ceremonies publicly acknowledge the service and sacrifices made by our distinguished Veterans and their family members. Patients receive the American flag pin as part of a reflection of all they have accomplished in life. They often feel a strong sense of purpose and significant connection to their own meaning in life as they receive the pin along with a poem, blanket and certificate. During this peaceful ceremony, these items are thoughtfully and respectfully given to them by one of our Vet-to-Vet Volunteers as a small expression of our gratitude for their service and willingness to entrust their hospice care to our team.
