Salus Emotional Support During Hospice Care

A life-limiting illness certainly affects a person’s state of mind. This can impact emotional health, family relationships and friendships. Feelings often vary from day to day or even hour to hour, and they can range from contentment to frustration, happiness to sadness and acceptance to resentment. Negative feelings often weigh heavy on the heart, especially when a person questions much about what they are experiencing and what has happened to them. Emotional support is an essential tool during these challenging times. This non-judgmental support is provided by a hospice social worker and trained volunteers. It offers a listening ear, meaningful advice and beneficial counseling for the patient and family members.

When people believe the final weeks or months of life are upon them, they often contemplate difficult questions. In expressing these questions, they sometimes cause pain or uncertainty for themselves and their loved ones. Supportive hospice professionals utilize empathic listening skills to show compassion and seek understanding. Doing this often helps you better understand things you are questioning and discover new coping skills to ease burdens and overcome many challenges. This can make the end of life a little less complicated so you feel secure enjoying all the time you have left.

After a patient passes, Salus Homecare Los Angeles continues to support grieving loved ones. Family members receive bereavement counseling to help them cope with their loss and feel safe and more confident moving on to their next stage in life. This fosters peace, comfort and even renewed hope and can help family members move through the stages of grief in a healthier way so they enjoy a better tomorrow.

Our family used the Salus Company for 6 years of wonderful caregivers in my mother’s home. When she needed more care, they found us a lovely board and care home with a great owner and 3 nice caregivers. As my mother’ s health declined, Salus found us a great doctor and we initiated the hospice process. The Salus Hospice team was amazing! I met with the nurse, Maria Rienzo, at every visit. She was informative, compassionate, and communicated extremely well to my mother”s 3 caregivers and to the doctor. She made sure my mother was comfortable and ordered anything she needed. My mother and our family also received great emotional support from the social worker, Mary Hackman, Mary was a rock star!

Emotional Care FAQ's

If you don’t see your question, please give us a call: (888) 725-8742

No, hospice care is not about giving up. It is about making the most of life for all the time you have left. Our social workers, counselors, nurses, medical director and volunteers are ready to provide the services you need to enjoy life to the fullest. We will never ask you to give up on living, and in fact, we encourage you to focus on comfort instead of a cure and enjoy every moment to the best of your ability.

Anticipatory grief is defined as when family members start to grieve the loss of a loved one before the loved one passes. While it is often uncomfortable to discuss, and many people feel guilty about experiencing it, anticipatory grief is healthy in some ways. It can help to make the grieving process after a loved one passes easier. Salus Homecare Los Angeles provides support to family members facing anticipatory grief. This may be in the form of counseling, offering respite care to give the family time to process feelings away from their loved one or helping you to find and access support groups and other community resources.
