Salus Spiritual Support During Hospice Care

Spirituality means being concerned with the human spirit or soul. Despite the association people often make between spirituality and religion, being spiritual does not have to mean being religious. While some people participate in organized religion, others search for an inner connection to self or reflect on their thoughts and how their life impacts others. When diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, many patients question spirituality. This might involve a soul-searching experience about the meaning of life, or it could mean coming to terms with things they have done in the past and asking for forgiveness or answers from a greater being. Having support often makes this very personal experience easier and more successful. Salus Homecare Los Angeles is here to honor your definition of spirituality and provide you with the right services to nurture you, open up opportunities for conversation, and help you find your best path toward healing, acceptance, and understanding.

Not everyone is religious. However, non-denominational spiritual support can benefit everyone, regardless of their beliefs. Our support is not meant to judge or convert you. It can help you regain a sense of purpose, better cope with challenges or difficult decisions and even mend relationships with people you care about. Spiritual health has known connections with emotional and physical health, so taking care of these needs can sometimes make the pain easier to manage and help you better control depression, anxiety, or other challenging emotions.

Salus Homecare Los Angeles offers spiritual support that is non-judgmental, non-denominational and sensitive to the personal nature of these conversations. Patients usually begin the discussions; we start by lending a supportive ear. While spiritual support is not a mandatory service, it is always available. If you are curious about the benefits it offers, we encourage you to give it a try.

On behalf of my family, we would like to thank you all for your hard work and dedication, putting your amazing skills to work in handling end-of-life care for our dearly loved father, Curtis Holmes. Our father passed away Tuesday morning, 10/3/23, peacefully in our home. All I could think was how grateful my family and I are to have all of you and your team with us until the end. The care you all provided from start to finish was priceless and paramount. It was exactly the expedient change we needed within that crucial period of time. We can’t thank you enough. THANK YOU TO OUR NURSING STAFF, SOCIAL WORKER, CHAPLIAN, EQUIPMENT DELIVERY STAFF AND COORDINATORS.

I was very pleased with the care my husband received even though we only had hospice care for 2.5 days. At least he passed at home, that was his biggest wish.

Spiritual Support FAQ's

If you don’t see your question, please give us a call: (888) 725-8742

No, hospice spiritual support is non-denominational. We support people of all faiths and those who choose not to prescribe to a specific religion or belief. Our hospice chaplain is non-judgmental and will listen, provide support and help you to access the resources that make this stage of your life’s journey a little easier to cope with.

No, our goal is not to take the place of your spiritual home. Instead, we want to add to your support system and make it easier for you to remain connected with your church. We are happy to work with your minister, pastor, priest, rabbi, imam, or other spiritual leader and will always encourage you to turn to the people you trust most for advice, conversation and support.

Salus Homecare Los Angeles has many resources available for people who are not religious. These include books, articles, and books on tape and help access support groups or other community resources. We can also recommend journaling, working with various art mediums or listening to or playing music to help you connect with your spiritual side. The most important thing to understand is that this journey is personal for everyone. In our role, we will listen first to know where you are and where you would like to go so we can find the right tools to help you get there.
