Grief Support Group

Salus Hospice’s grief support group “Riding the Waves of Grief” is a five week virtual series designed to create solidarity and connection and provide support and information for individuals who are experiencing grief and loss. The series will be offered virtually using a Zoom chatroom, facilitated and moderated by Mark Maines, professional Grief Counselor with Salus Hospice.

This series is free of cost and open to all, even those who were not our hospice care patients and families. Registration is required.

Who is This For?

The grief support series was designed for individuals who are facing the challenges associated with the loss of a loved one. Throughout the series, we’ll answer questions, provide information and offer bereaved individuals a safe space to better understand the physical, emotional and spiritual changes that often accompany a sudden loss.

Week 1: Thursday
Grief: If We Name It, We Can Manage It

Week 2: Thursday
Grief: Signs, Symptoms and Riding Its Waves

Week 3: Thursday
Disorientation: Guilt, Grace, and Permission to Be Lost

Week 4: Thursday Reorientation: Returning “Home” When Everything has Changed

Week 5: Thursday Holy Grief and Our Search for Meaning

When Will This Take Place?

February and March Dates will be available soon. The five week series will take place on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 PST virtually on Zoom.

Group Facilitator: Mark Maines, Grief Counselor

Mark Maines MDiv/Chaplain (former Lt, CHC, USN) is a “Grief Guide” and trauma specialist. As a former Naval Chaplain assigned to combat arms Marines, Mark shared his gifts and was highly skilled in helping others navigate life’s most difficult moments. He possesses over 20 years of experience in his field and wholeheartedly believes that solidarity with others and enduring hope have the potential to help transform all of life’s hardships and pain. Mark holds degrees in psychology and theology and is a valued member of the Salus Team.
