Under what circumstances do I need both home care and home health services?
Many of our clients need only home care assistance, but there are situations which necessitate hiring both a professional caregiver and a home health nurse. These might include when a client returns home from the hospital or has a chronic medical condition. If home health might be appropriate for you, this will be discussed during your free, no obligation consultation.
If I have family local and available to assist me, is it still beneficial to obtain in home care?
Salus Homecare of South Bay’s professional caregivers support family caregivers. We can provide them with respite so they can step away and take care of their own needs and assist you with ADLs and IADLs that may be difficult or uncomfortable for your family members to help with. Our services are also available when your family members are out of town or unavailable for a period of time due to work or family obligations, a vacation or an injury or illness.
How many professional caregivers will be assigned to me?
Many of our clients have only one professional caregiver in the home, but it is sometimes necessary to assign more than one. This could happen if one professional caregiver cannot meet your scheduling needs or when backup care is provided because your primary caregiver is taking personal time off.
My daily medications are confusing. Can my professional caregiver give them to me with my meals?
Salus Homecare of South Bay never allows our professional caregivers to administer medications to clients for liability reasons and due to safety concerns. These individuals are knowledgeable and competent, but they are not licensed or skilled nurses. They will remind you to take your medications if that service would benefit you. If your needs are more comprehensive, the right choice may be to consider Salus Homecare of South Bay’s home health services.
What does hiring a professional caregiver do to my independence?
Salus Homecare of South Bay’s professional caregivers support each client’s highest level of independence while also helping them to maintain a safe and healthy lifestyle. They encourage clients to perform tasks independently whenever possible and provide the appropriate level of assistance whenever help is needed. With our services, many of our clients are able to remain at home longer, and this further contributes to their independence.
Will you require me to sign a contract?
No. Salus Homecare of South Bay does not require any client to sign a contract and we never assess penalties or fees if you make a change in service or discontinue services.
Why should I choose Salus Homecare of South Bay when I can hire a caregiver on my own?
Salus Homecare of South Bay is a respected agency, accredited for quality by the Joint Commission. This means we hold our professional caregivers to higher standards and require that they participate in a stringent interview process and background check. We also bond and insure our professional caregivers and manage all payroll duties associated with hiring an employee including taking out taxes and providing workman’s compensation. While you could do many of these things on your own, there is a lot of time and effort involved, and skipping even one step could compromise your safety and negatively impact the type of care you are receiving.
Can I fire my caregiver if I do not like her?
Salus Homecare of South Bay is committed to 100-percent customer satisfaction. If you are not satisfied with your services or your professional caregiver, please contact our office or your care manager. We will listen to your concerns, answer any questions, address the problem and if necessary, assign a different caregiver to you.
